ABOUT CALVARY GOSPEL ASSEMBLY INC.

Calvary Gospel Assembly, Inc. (C.G.A) was founded in 1979 by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost and under the leading of The Late Bishop Alvin Alexander Porter. In 1975, the Lord spoke to Bishop Porter and inspired him to begin a church ministry here in the South Bronx.

Calvary Gospel Assembly began as a small storefront, originally located on 169th Street between Walton and The Grand Concourse, with a few members. Within four years, our membership had grown from few to many which prompted the need for more space in our house of Worship.

In 1979, through the leading of the Holy Spirit and a cohesive working team of dedicated members, our need for space materialized. Through the faithful giving of tithes, offerings, and in-gatherings, we were able to purchase this property in which we are presently located; 31 East 169th Street Bronx, NY 10452.

Since the inception of the Calvary Gospel Assembly in 1975, four new churches have been planted.

One in the North Bronx, Pastored by

Another in Pell River District, Hanover, Jamaica, W.I, Pastored by

Rev. Revern Grant.

Pastor Sonia Harvey.

On November 3, 2011, our founder, Bishop Alvin Alexander Porter went home to be with the Lord - leaving behind his beloved & ever-faithful wife Dorothy Porter; affectionately known as 'Mother Porter.' (Learn more about the Mother of C.G.A Here)

On August 18, 2012, Reverend Pearl Phillips was ordained as the Lead Pastor and Reverend Doxie Melhado the Assistant Pastor at Calvary Gospel Assembly Headquarters - 169th Street, South Bronx Branch.

Calvary Gospel Assembly, Inc. is a religious institution that is set forth to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through every available means, including our Ministries. We recognize the Bible as the standards by which we must evaluate all beliefs, all instructions, all policies and practices set forth in 2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly unto good works."

Our commitment, here at Calvary Gospel Assembly, Inc., is to proclaim the Living Savior to a lost and dying world, to stay in close fellowship with the Lord, to do the work of the ministry in the wisdom and strength of the Lord rather than our own and to live a life that distinguishes us as children of God.
